Ok. Being unemployed right now, I'm trying to look for a job. I picked a newspaper up the other day and I see that they are hiring for newspaper deliverers. However, my parents, getting on my case being unemployed keep telling me that I can't have that as a job, and are trying to get me to do things I don't want to do (such as fast food). Last time I checked, anything that gives you a paycheck is a job. Plus, I could actually enjoy doing it as I don't have to put up with annoying co-workers / customers for the most part and can listen to whatever I want on the radio. Plus, a few paper routes pay close to what my old job did for about half the time. So basically, my question is, how can I convince to let me do paper delivery.
Don't know if it matters, but I'm 19.
How do I convince my parents that newspaper delivery is a job?
You are right, anything that gives you a paycheck is a job. And if you are 19, you shouldn't need to convince your parents of anything (unless of course you live under their roof). But I delivered papers when I was about 10 years old until I was 14, and I hardly made $50 a week. And I still did have to deal with customers, because I had to "collect" from them bi-weekly.
Ultimately, it is up to you what type of job you get, but I suggest you check out a career centre or a job search website to see what all is out there that you would be eligible for. Career centres can also help you make a resume and practice for job interviews. College isn't for everyone, but there are also different jobs with apprenticeships.
Best of luck to you.
