Pizza delivery is it a good job?

With gas prices right now, is pizza delivery a good job? I only want to work for a month before school starts. and how hard is it? i dont know street names that well. Also my car is not completly paid for yet.

I deliver pizzas for Papa John's in a small town, and make fairly good money doing it.


Most people just automatically dismiss pizza delivery as such a bullcrap poor-person job, simply because we get tipped around $1-5 at a time. At the end of the night though, especially on a busy night such as weekends, all those $1-5 can seriously add up, and with the price of gas right now most of that money goes into your wallet rather than your gas tank.


To put it into perspective, I average anywhere from $12-20 an hour delivering pizzas on 5 or 6 hour shifts in the evenings. Does that sound like an idiotic, low-income job? I wouldn't think so, but hey, stereotypes are what they are.


Also, it's not hard at all. The restaurant should have a few maps in it for you, and you can always just get a local atlas and put it in your glove compartment. The only part that can get a bit tricky is finding the exact addresses themselves, especially if the road has no mailboxes.


But it's a good job for the most part. I say go for it.

If you're in a college town during the holidays business will be terrible. If you're home, then things will be better.





It isn't hard. Get a map (or a keymap) and learn. Drive around a bit to get to know the area. You'll need auto insurance.





I started out as a pizza delivery driver in a college town in the spring of 1983. I was managing the store by September. It isn't hard, and you may actually learn how to make pizza as well.
