I got this new job at Piatto..expensive Italian restaurant and they have me doing the take-out orders on the phone, transferring them into the computer, and also taking care of deliveries. (Taking the order through the phone and then taking the food to the customer's house) I get paid 8 an hour plus tips. Do most hostesses do this kind of stuff?
I'm a hostess and have to deliveries AND take-out....this isn't in my job description?
I'm assuming that you mean taking orders for delivery, not driving your car to the customer's house.
This is very common. Even if there was a formal written job description, it would say, "And other duties as assigned by management." This falls under that category.
With the bad economy, many restaurants are having to cut back, and have the hostess take on additional duties. The good news: 1) You'll likely earn at least some tips this way and 2) You're still employed.
Many restaurants are eliminating the hostess, and just having the wait staff or manager do it. So count yourself lucky.
Reply:It's so common to have added responsibilities once your hired. You either do them or resign. I would hope that if you are using your own car for deliveries that they are paying you mileage.
